Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], September 13 (ANI): A two-day Rajya Sainik Board Directors’ conclave was organised in Shillong to address critical issues of serving personnel and ex-servicemen from the North East region of India, who have consistently brought honour to the nation through their exemplary service.
According to an official release, “In recognition of the unique challenges and specific needs of veterans of the North East States, a two-day Rajya Sainik Board Director’s Conclave was organised at Shillong by HQ 101 Area for the first time.”
“The conclave addressed critical issues related to veteran welfare, including SPARSH (System for Pension Administration Raksha), ECHS (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme), and resettlement opportunities,” said the release.
As per the release, the discussions were aimed at refining the approach to ESM welfare, customised to the unique requirements of the North East.
Senior officials, including the Secretary of the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 101 Area Shillong, the Pension Comptroller of Defence Accounts (Prayagraj), and the Directorate of Resettlement, participated alongside directors from the Rajya Sainik Boards of the North Eastern states.
“The conclave will endeavour to identify key challenges and develop actionable solutions to enhance ESM welfare across the region,” stated the release.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed concerns over fresh incidents of violence in Manipur and said the Government of India needs to intervene in this.
“The situation that is constantly developing in Manipur is complex because there are people from different communities here, and in a way, history has also given rise to conflicts at many different levels in Manipur. So the current situation has also become quite complex. I believe that the Government of India needs to intervene in this, where we bring a political solution here, where we bring confidence from every community in a way so that we can bring everyone on one platform and decide how to move forward,” CM Sangma said.
Adding further, he said, “It is very important to bring this thinking, this platform, and this favourable environment, and I believe that no one other than the Government of India will be able to do this.”
Amid the fresh violence that has engulfed the state of Manipur, the state government has imposed a ban on internet services in the state starting on Tuesday. (ANI)
