Odisha CM Majhi felicitates medallists of 47th World Skills Competition – World News Network

Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) [India] September 24 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday felicitated medallists Amaresh Kumar Sahu and Gedela Akhil for their achievements at the 47th World Skills Competition in France.
Amaresh Kumar Sahu won a bronze medal in renewable energy, while Gedela Akhil received a medallion for excellence in water technology during the event held from September 10 to 15.
The felicitation ceremony took place at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar in the presence of Minister of Skill and Industries, Sampad Chandra Swain.
India, participating in the championship for vocational skills, won 4 medals and 12 medallions for excellence.
Speaking to ANI, Odisha Minister Sampad Prasad Swain, highlighted the growing focus on skill development in the state. He said, “Our youth are proving that the Odisha youth is focusing on skills. We are focused on ensuring that more of our youth get skilled. The Odisha skill development department is committed to this.”
He further added, “We want to map skills and establish 10 Kausal Bhawan; so far, we have established one. Through skill-mapping, we will provide skills training in districts as per need.”
In the World Skills Competition, Ashwitha Police, who competed in patisserie and confectionery, won the Best of Nation award, becoming the most outstanding competitor from Team India. Ashwitha, from Telangana, also won a bronze medal, competing against 21 countries in her category.
“It’s a dream come true to represent my country and win a medal. The journey has been challenging but incredibly rewarding,” Ashwitha said.
WorldSkills Lyon 2024 featured over 1,400 participants from more than 70 countries, competing in diverse skill categories. India competed in 52 skills against countries like China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Germany, Brazil, Australia, Colombia, Denmark, France, the UK, South Africa, Switzerland, and the USA, showcasing its talent and innovation on an international stage.
