Timothee Chalamet criticized for ‘disrespectful’ Jimmy Carter joke on ‘SNL’ – World News Network

Washington [US], January 27 (ANI): Timothee Chalamet has sparked controversy following a “disrespectful” joke about late US President Jimmy Carter during his Saturday Night Live appearance.
The 29-year-old actor faced criticism after making an ill remark about the former US President during a workout sketch, as per Page Six.
Chalamet, playing a bungee instructor named Nathaniel Latrine, led a workout session with cast members Heidi Gardner and Michael Longfellow.
The sketch involved a series of physical exercises mimicking flying and swimming, before Chalamet shouted, “Jimmy Carter!” The joke, intended to be comedic, had Chalamet and the rest of the class drop lifeless while suspended by their bungee cords.
The moment immediately drew gasps from the audience, as per Page Six.
The joke, which seemed to make light of Carter’s recent death, was not well-received by viewers at home.
Many took to social media to express their disapproval. One critic posted, “Was funny until that Jimmy Carter line. Totally disrespectful and out of line. And yes, I have a sense of humour and love the show but that was just horrible and too soon … I hope his family didn’t see that.”
Another added, “That sketch was actually pretty funny until the Jimmy Carter line.”
While the sketch had its humorous moments, the Jimmy Carter joke quickly overshadowed the rest of the performance.
The former US president passed away on December 29 at the age of 100 after spending two years in hospice care. Carter’s funeral was attended by numerous political figures, including President Donald Trump, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and former President Bill Clinton.
In addition to the backlash over the joke, Chalamet also poked fun at himself during the SNL segment, making light of his recent string of award show losses, as per Page Six.
After the show, the actor was seen attending an afterparty in New York City with his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, in tow. (ANI)
