“BJP leaders should bring bill to punish rapists in 7 days”: Abhishek Banerjee on Kolkata doctor rape, murder case – World News Network

South 24 Parganas (West Bengal) [India], August 10 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday called for the introduction of an ordinance or bill to ensure completion of rape trials within 7 days.
This demand comes after a woman post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor was found dead in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday.
“The politicisation of this issue should not be done. I saw many political parties come out on the streets. We should instead bring an ordinance or a bill so that there can be quick justice in 7 days. The protesting BJP leaders should bring a bill to punish rapists in 7 days and as the opposition, the job of TMC and Congress is to support the bill. Why will the trial take 5-6 years? A mother and father lost their daughter,” he said.
He stated that the West Bengal government is taking the RG Kar incident seriously, and an accused has been arrested within 24 hours.
“This incident is extremely heinous, the state government is taking this matter seriously and within 24 hours an accused has been arrested…There is no identity of a rapist whether he is a policeman, an engineer, a labourer, or anything else. The accused is just a murderer and has no right to stay in society,” he said.
Meanwhile, Doctors at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi held a protest on Saturday in support of the female post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor who was found dead inside the seminar hall of the government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal.
The protesting doctors were seen carrying posters and were heard sloganeering, “We want a CBI inquiry.”
Her death sparked a political storm in West Bengal, with BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul demanding a CBI investigation and a re-postmortem by a Central Government hospital.
“The condition in which her body was found–completely naked with bruises–suggests she was raped and then murdered. We demand a CBI investigation. A postmortem should not be conducted after evening, yet it was done here. If the postmortem is carried out under the state system, the truth will be buried,” Paul asserted.
Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Suvendu Adhikari, has also demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident. (ANI)
