“If protectors become predators, then…”: Sanjay Nishad on his “breaking hands, legs of seven inspectors'” statement – World News Network

Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 19 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Kumar Nishad on Wednesday clarified his “breaking the hands and legs of seven inspectors” statement and said it was made in self-defence during a 2015 rail protest.
Speaking to ANI, Nishad explained that when the CRPF, guarding central government land, started firing on protestors, the protectors turned into predators, forcing them to act in self-defence.
He urged that the context in which the statement was made should also be highlighted.
“There is another aspect to why I made this statement. I gave this statement because, on 7th June 2015, during the rail movement, the protectors became the predators. When we were on the railway land, the CRPF would come there. It was the land of the central government with central security. The state government forcibly started firing on us. If the protectors become predators, then anything will have to be done in self-defence,” Nishad said.
“The statement has been shown but in what context it was said that should also be shown,” he urged.
On Tuesday, UP Minister Sanjay Nishad, while speaking at a rally in Sultanpur, said, “7 dargah ke hath-pair tudvakar, yaha phocha hu (‘I reached here after breaking the hands and legs of seven inspectors’).”
On June 7, 2015, a protest broke out in the Kasarwal area of Sahjanwan, where members of the Nishad community rallied for a five per cent reservation in government jobs. As the demonstration intensified, protestors blocked the railway tracks, leading to a violent clash with the police. The situation escalated when the authorities resorted to a lathi charge.
Earlier, Nishad party president and Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad said that earlier state governments in the UP have done injustice to the Nishad community by keeping it under the OBC category. He added that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has from time to time raised the voice of the community. (ANI)
