Guwahati (Assam) [India] August 23 (ANI): A minor was allegedly gang-raped in Assam’s Nagaon district, police said, adding that two people have been picked up in connection with the incident.
The alleged incident took place when the girl was on way home from tuition class on August 22 in Dhing area.
According to reports, locals found the girl in a semi-conscious state by the side of a road and immediately admitted her to a hospital.
Swapnaneel Deka, Superintendent of Police of Nagaon district told ANI over the phone that, “Police have picked up two persons for interrogation in connection with the incident.”
“Our investigation is on. We are now waiting for the doctor’s report,” the police official said.
The incident has sparked massive protests in the area, with locals demanding stern action against the perpetrators of the crime and justice for the victim.
Following the incident, several organisations on Friday called a local bandh (shut down) at Dhing area.

The Assam CM also directed the state DGP to visit the site and ensure swift action against such monsters.
“The horrific incident at Dhing, involving a minor, is a crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience. We will NOT SPARE anyone & BRING the perpetrators to JUSTICE. I’ve directed @DGPAssamPolice to visit the site and ensure swift action against such monsters,” the Assam Chief Minister wrote on X.
