Agartala ( Tripura) [India], August 2 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is closely monitoring the present situation in the South District created due to heavy rain and has said that the administration is prepared to deal with any eventuality, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s office issued on Friday.
Saha has sought reports from the Revenue Secretary and India Meteorological Department (IMD) Departments.
On Facebook, Saha wrote that according to the IMD report, Belonia has received the highest rainfall of 214.40 mm, whereas the rainfall in Sabroom and Bagafa has been recorded at 152.00 mm and 80.00 mm, respectively.
The heavy rainfall has caused water levels to rise in the rivers Muhuri and Lawgang. Presently, the water level in Muhuri is 26.60 mtr, which exceeds the expected flood level of 23.60 mtr but is below the critical level of 27.50 mtr.
The Lawgang is at 24.50 mtr, which is flowing above the danger level of 24.00 mtr.
Saha also said that the water level of the Muhuri River has crossed safe limits. Shelters have been made ready and preparations for precautionary evacuation have started.
“Action has been taken for the shifting of water-logged families from Belonia and Santirbazar urban areas. As reported, 6 houses have so far been partly damaged in Belonia Sub Division, & necessary support is being extended to the affected families,” said Saha.
He also said that initiatives have already been taken to clear the blocked roads due to the falling of trees due to heavy showers.
“Aapda Mitra & Civil Defence Volunteers, TSR, TSECL, Forest and other QRTs are on standby and will be pressed into action if the situation worsens. There is no need to panic; the administration is closely monitoring the overall situation and prepared to deal with any eventuality. We appeal to the people residing across the district to stay alert & contact the local administration in case of any emergency,” he added. (ANI)
