U’khand: Tragedy averted as Jan Shatabdi driver spots iron pole on rail tracks near Rurdrapur, stops train – World News Network

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], September 19 (ANI): A probable disaster was averted by quick action by the driver of the Naini Jan Shatabdi who brought the train to a stop after noticing a electric pole in the middle of the tracks between Bilaspur Road and Rudrapur City in Uttarakhand on Thursday.
According to Indian Railway officials, the loco pilot of train number number 12091 reported a 6-meter-long iron pole on the trackf following which the driver halted the train, and after the track was cleared resumed the journey.
Ashutosh Shukla, Superintendent of Police (SP), Railway said that a memo was received by Government Railway Police (GRP), Rampur about an electric pole on the train tracks.
“Yesterday at 10.18 pm, GRP Rampur received a memo from RPF that when Naini Jan Shatabdi Train was going from Rampur to Rudrapur City, an old electric pole was found on the tracks about 1.5-2 km ahead of Rudrapur City Station. The loco pilot applied emergency brakes and stopped the train. The pole was removed from the spot and we were informed of it,” he said while speaking to ANI.
He further said that officers of Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Police (RPF) and district police also examined the spot where the pole was found. “GRP, RPF and District Police reached the spot and examined the spot. It was found that there were bushes on one side and forest on the other. The pole was hidden there and then dragged onto the tracks later on,” the SP added.
The SP additionally stated that no other train operations were impacted due to this incident.
“The train crossed Kathgodam around 9:38 PM and reached the area around 10:05 PM, so only during these 15-20 minutes the pole was pushed onto the track,” he said.
According to officials, a case has been registered regarding in Rampur Police station the incident, and the investigation is ongoing. (ANI)
